GPS Photos

Global Position Satellite tagged photography

First what is it; essentially its not only recording the digital image that the camera saw but also recording the position from were the photo was taken.
Most cameras record the date and some other data i.e. the shutter speed and the aperture, now we can record the position as well.
Now seeing is better than explaining so to show to show you what I mean click on this link to see some photos I took while over in Australia I wont tell you where as the GPS data will do that for me.
Now in the new window click on the “map this” button and you will be whisked off to Google Earth for a satellite view of the area where the photos were taken you can zoom in using the on screen controls and if you click on the green upside down tear drops you will see a small thumb nail of the picture click the thumb and you can get the larger picture, simple.
So what can it do for you?
Well apart from the obvious of being able to show were the photo was taken, you can show people detailed ground views, like this is were our hotel / guest house is, just a short walk you will be here seeing views like this, or this, now for people looking at Cornwall on Google Earth its not mapped very well so being able to show a better ground view is a different and novel why of showing your location.
